I Tried 7 Viral Home Remedies in 7 Days and This Is Exactly What Happened
It All Began With One Stupid Idea at 1AM.
It was just another night. I was tucked into bed, darkness around me, smartphone right next to me, watching videos I wasn’t sure how I had ended up on. And then something started catching my eye:
Every single other video was about home remedies.
- “You’ll glow after drinking this.”
- “Get immediate relief with this.”
- “Everything changed in 24 hours.”
But then it hit me: If even a fraction of that stuff is accurate… why aren’t more people taking advantage? Yet, on the other hand,
What if nothing is even remotely close to reality? Why would so many people be praising it then?
So instead of adding it to my “maybe someday” list (which never works), I tried a new approach: I put it to the test. Not exactly clinically, but rather practically. One remedy each day. For seven consecutive days.
Without exaggerations. Without pretenses. Only the truth.
Safety Precautions Before We Begin
Quick fact-check before you try any of these out: These are simple and harmless methods (no medicine).
I am not substituting proper treatment, just experimenting with common practices If anything goes awry, stop right away. And if you have an ailment, do consult a professional
In other words: Curiosity is good. Blind trust is not.
Day 1: Honey and Warm Water (Sore Throat)
Reason for Trying: I woke up feeling the usual soreness in my throat—I could almost hear my mind saying, “Is this the start of an illness, or am I just breathing too much through the fan?”
Instead of going straight to medication, I opted to try the time-honored remedy of: 1 tablespoon of honey plus Warm water
What It Feels Like (No Drama, Please)
First sip? Surprisingly, quite soothing. It wasn’t groundbreaking. Just… comforting. As if it had a calming effect on my throat for about five minutes.
Results: The irritation lessened slightly. I no longer coughed every ten seconds. But it did not have miraculous effects.
“Honey is viscous; it forms a coating in your throat and soothes irritation. The warm water aids relaxation.”
My Personal Opinion: It was a recommendation my grandma would make—and it didn’t seem out-of-date for once.
Would I repeat the process? Definitely.
Day 2: Ginger Tea for Bloating
Before the Event Took Place
I indulged in a heavy lunch that included rice and fried food. And yes, I had no second thoughts about it… until 20 minutes passed after it. You know the feeling when your stomach feels so tight and bloated? Yes, that one.
Solution: Fresh ginger was boiled, and drank gradually.
Regarding the flavor? Let me tell you one thing: not cute. Spicy and sharp to the taste buds.
30-40 minutes later, Subtle change, not something spectacular like, Wow!
Yet, it did happen: There was less discomfort in my stomach. I stopped moving on my seat.
“Ginger improves the digestion process by accelerating gastric movement”.
My Thoughts: Not immediate results, but helpful nonetheless.
Day 3: Ice on Pimples
Reason to Try: Everyone on the internet claims that you should try “using an ice cube to reduce a pimple overnight.” And I was hit by one exactly on my cheek.
Method: Applied the ice wrapped in a towel (crucial – never apply the ice directly on your skin). Left it on for approximately one minute.
The Effect: The redness decreased. I appeared calmer. I started to get optimistic.
Effect on the Next Day:
Still there. The same old pimple. Just much calmer.
“Ice Cools the area and decreases inflammation but Doesn’t address the underlying cause of it.”
My Opinion: Effective as an immediate measure, but not the solution.
Day 4: Turmeric Drink (“Golden Milk”)
Why I Tried It: It’s everywhere—talk about inflammation, hormones, healing.
So I tried: Milk, Turmeric, Pepper
The Truth: It was earthy. Not awful, not great, just weird.
Did Anything Change? Nope. I waited for something to happen, but it didn’t happen.
“Turmeric contains beneficial compounds, but they take time to have an effect.”
What I Think: This seems more like a daily routine than a quick solution. And the truth is, most videos don’t even mention that part.
Day 5: Inhaling Steam
The Scenario: I have slight stuffiness of the nose. I’m not ill; just feeling uncomfortable.
My Actions: Bowl with hot water. Covering my head with a towel and Inhaling the steam.
Initial Response:
At first, it was very strong. I felt like walking into a tiny sauna for my face.
A Few Minutes Afterwards:
Nose got clear. Breathing became more comfortable. However… It soon returned.
“Steam breaks down the phlegm temporarily. However, it doesn’t address the root cause.”
My Honest Opinion: Effective but temporary.
Day 6: Apple Cider Vinegar on Skin
Reasons for Initial Skepticism: Even before trying it, I had doubts. Anything that strong on skin is so risky.
Strong acid applied to your skin Not good.
What I Did: Watered down the apple cider vinegar (very crucial). and applied sparingly.
Immediate Effect: Tingling sensation… Then more pronounced. Then close to a burn.
The Next Day:
- Dry skin
- Mild irritation
- No effect on acne
“Highly acidic solution. It may cause irritation to the skin.”
This was the point at which I drew the line. Everything natural is not necessarily mild.
Day 7: Drink More Water
Too Basic, Isn’t It? That was how I almost missed the day. But I did it anyway. The Difference with more water in me:
- I became less sluggish.
- My skin appeared better.
- Digestion improved
Not much, but still noticeable.
“Water is important for energy, digestive process, and skin appearance.”
My Opinion: This one is definitely the most boring treatment… But also the most realistic.
The Secret Nobody Will Tell You
What shocked me the most?
1. Most of the Cures Just Make You “Feel Better”
It doesn’t mean they fix anything. Is it a good thing? It definitely is.
2. The Internet Magnifies Everything
That which brings some relief turns into: “THAT TURNED MY LIFE AROUND.” And there lies the disappointment.
3. You Can Always Sense Something Isn’t Right
Like with the vinegar. Your body will tell you very fast. The catch is we tend to overlook that due to popularity.
What Really Worked
To Keep Forever:
- Honey + warm water
- Ginger tea
- Increased water intake
Conditional: Icing pimples, Steam inhalation
Not for Me: Apple cider vinegar on the skin.
Undetermined: Turmeric drink
Last Thought (My Hardest One)
If I’m being entirely honest with myself? This challenge hasn’t changed my life. But it did change my perspective.
From now on, when I encounter an internet cure, instead of thinking: “Man, I have to give this a try!”
I wonder: “What is this good for… and what is it not good for?”
And that subtle difference? It might very well be worth more than the remedies I tested.
Let’s Talk:
I don’t want this to become yet another post that ends up in my archive. So give me your take:
- What natural remedy has worked wonders for you in the past?
- Or what’s one that doesn’t work but everyone raves about?
- Would you even consider a viral remedy before doing your research first?
